OP-ED: CONNECTICUT: POWER AND THE GROTESQUE ABUSE OF POWER

The insult starts with a gang of Democrats agreeing, part way through a hearing, to cancel the hearing.  That hundreds of people had signed up to be heard was irrelevant to them.  In fact this huge loud rabble of voters was the major source of irritation that caused them to change the rules mid-stream.

This is annoying by itself.  It is not the first time.  In fact, not only have gangs of Democrats in the legislature done this before, they have violated other practices and snubbed their noses at the voters who spoke out against them.

Their unilateral theft of the rights of voters is just one of many grotesque abuses of power in the Connecticut legislature.  Democrats in a supermajority believe they are entitled to be jerks.  This should settle any doubts about the Democrats as lusting for power. The more they have of it the more they abuse it.  Below is a brief and incomplete list of some practices they inflict on Republicans and ALL voters.

1.      Change the rules

2.      Create baseless allegations as basis for legislation

3.      Ignore following your own rules

4.      Create inconvenience in the chamber so you can pass your bill

5.      Limit the time for review and commentary by suddenly changing the calendar

6.      Create a false emergency in order to violate the public right to testify.

Perhaps one can think of it as the normal exercise of power, but it is not.  The unique proposition of the Framers of the Constitution was that everyone has the opportunity to speak up and argue their case.  Not an elite, not a group of technocrats meeting in secret; voters, all voters who want to speak.

So, the message of this short op-ed is clear.  So long as voters remain apathetic the grotesque abuse continue.  More importantly, allowing such people to remain in office will absolutely ensure that the grotesque will continue.  So, the call to action is for those who care about our system of government to step up, get involved in grass roots organizing and get elected who understand respect for voters for a central purpose of democracy.
